Don’t let the flu sideline you! Take part in our weekly challenges to keep yourself and others healthy this year.
Week One – Get a Flu Shot
The best way to prevent the flu, according to the CDC? Get a flu shot! This week take some time to find a location that provides immunizations and schedule a flu vaccination. Vaccinefinder.org is a website that can help you locate a provider.
Week Two – Wash Your Hands
Make an effort to wash your hands before eating and before touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Remember to use warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds – you can hum “Happy Birthday” twice if you need a timer. Want to go above and beyond? Keep an alcohol-based hand sanitizer in your car or purse for times when you don’t have access to running water.
Week Three – Increase Your Vitamin Intake
Boost your immune system by adding a food high in vitamins A, C, or E to a meal or snack. These vitamins can keep your immune system working efficiently. Some examples include:
• VITAMIN A: sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, apricots
• VITAMIN C: oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, red peppers, strawberries
• VITAMIN E: vegetable oils, whole grains, almonds, peanut butter
Week Four – Keep Your Space Germ-Free
Brainstorm items in your home or workplace that are frequently touched by you and others. Some examples include your cell phone or work phone, shopping cart, keyboard, and doorknobs. Make a goal to clean and disinfect these items three to four times this week to reduce the spread of germs.
